Pedro Aviles Pérez (1936-1978), also known as "El León de la Sierra," was a Mexican drug lord and one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel, one of Mexico's oldest and most powerful drug organizations.
Aviles began his criminal career as a small-time marijuana farmer in the Sierra Madre mountains of Sinaloa. He later became involved in the trafficking of drugs and established relationships with other drug lords, including Rafael Caro Quintero and Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo.
Aviles was known for his ruthlessness and his ability to evade arrest. He was also respected by his peers for his business acumen and his ability to negotiate deals with rival cartels.
In 1978, Aviles was killed in a shootout with Mexican police. His death marked the beginning of a bloody battle for control of the Guadalajara Cartel, which would ultimately lead to the rise of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel.
